Quick Answers

What breeds of dogs are represented in Adventure Time? toggle section
Adventure Time features dogs of various breeds, including bulldogs and shiba inus. Jake, a bulldog and Finn's adoptive brother, is a prominent character. Despite being a bulldog, Jake is depicted as a pug in a promo. Dogs in the series have enhanced senses like sight and smell and live in 'dog years'. They primarily inhabit the Crystal Dimension alongside rainicorns and crystal people. The show also introduces pups, a species resulting from the combination of Dog, Rainicorn, and Shapeshifter DNA, originating from Jake and Lady's offspring.

In Adventure Time, dogs, including the prominent dog Jake, exhibit superior senses compared to humans. Their sight and smell are notably enhanced, with Jake's ability to detect Finn and a wild pig's scent. Even with anthropomorphic traits like speech and tool use, they retain typical dog behaviors and relationships, like Jake's bond with Finn, akin to a mother-daughter relationship.

In Adventure Time, dogs like Jake exhibit a lifespan longer than the average 10-13 years of real dogs. Indications of this come from visions of Jake with an aged Finn. Like real dogs, the dogs in Adventure Time come in a variety of breeds, from bulldog to shiba inu. They have increased senses such as sight and smell compared to humans and most have shorter life spans due to living in "dog years," though the rate at which they age seems to be slower than with real dogs. The future visions in "Dungeon Train" show Jake alongside an elderly Finn, suggesting a life span much longer than a real dog's average 10-13 years. In "The New Frontier", Jake says he will "probably live another hundred years easy", though this may have been an exaggeration, or Jake may be an outlier due to his unusual heritage. Dogs have adapted to the circumstances of the world they now live in (or mutated from the Mushroom War) and have become anthropomorphic, having gained the means of speech and learned the usage of tools and weaponry.

Society

Though they appear to live in a society akin to many of the other creatures of this world, they seem to prefer being companions with other beings. The most notable dog is Jake, Finn's companion and adoptive brother. It seems that a large majority of dogs reside in the Crystal Dimension based on the episode, "Lady Rainicorn of the Crystal Dimension", where they live together with Rainicorns and Crystal People.

History

Sometime before the series, dogs were at war with Rainicorns for millennia over territory in the Crystal Dimension, as mentioned in the episode "Her Parents". Before the Mushroom War, dogs were domesticated by humans. It is possible that the Rainicorn-Dog Wars in the Crystal Dimension occurred sometime after the Mushroom War (and well beyond that).
